Finally got it: the Big Bang opened the universe at speeds higher
than the speed of light. Gas clouds and eventually galaxies formed
that do obey the laws of matter. We see at the edge of the universe
accelerating galaxies; thus failing to see galaxies having sped out of
range. Neat!
